"Eve of Destruction" is a song by The Chemical Brothers featured in their ninth studio album, No Geography.[1] AURORA is featured on vocals and is credited as co-writer, it is one of several songs they worked on together. Japanese rapper Nene also features on the track.

A remix by KOKOKO! was released on August 23, 2019.[2] The song was also reworked in "Eve of Dubstruction" by The Chemical Brothers.

Background[]

The English electronic duo said to Apple Music:

"I saw Aurora on TV, playing at Glastonbury, and I was blown away by the power of her voice and the raw feel she had. She came to the studio and we had such an inspiring time. She was so open to ideas and so full of ideas. She came up with 'Eve of Destruction' as a character, this goddess of destruction. It starts with a discordant voice, but as the track grows, it turns into celebration. The response to this foreboding, forbidding nature of the lyric is to cut loose, to come together, go out and find a friend and be with other like-minded people."[3]

Interviewed about her collaborations by Clash Music, Aurora said:

"I got an email from Tom Rowlands in 2017 and he just said: Do you want to write with us? I couldn't believe it. I don't get starstruck but my musical respect for them is so huge and it was so nice that he asked me direct rather than through his management. I took a week to reply because I couldn't find the right words. [...] It was a dream to be in the studio with Tom and all the synths. I was nervous to pitch the ideas I had but I also knew he would like it somehow."[4]

And to NME, she said:

"I got to listen to the album with Tom [Rowlands] and even slept in his attic because I forgot to book a hotel. It was really wonderful. I listened to the tracks and knew right away so wrote the melody and lyrics at the airport where I was stuck for three hours. Then Tom just took care of his favourite parts and that's how it happened."[5]

Lyrics[]

The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction

The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction (Human minds are simplified)
The eve of destruction (Sacrifice is justified)
The eve of destruction (Human minds are simplified)
The eve of destruction (Sacrifice is justified)
The eve of destruction (Human minds are simplified)
The eve of destruction (Sacrifice is justified)
The eve of destruction (Human minds are simplified)
The eve of destruction (Sacrifice is justified)
The eve of destruction

(Human minds are simplified)
We can't afford the water
(Sacrifice is justified)
Everyone is left to die
(Human minds are simplified)
Keep running, keep running
(Sacrifice is justified)
Keep running, keep running

Maybe I'll find a friend
Maybe I'll find a friend
Maybe I'll find a friend
To spend the weekend

Drunk a sample suicide
Justify a human, I
Enjoy my, enjoy my
Eve of destruction

Maybe I'll find a friend
Maybe I'll find a friend
Maybe I'll find a friend
To spend the weekend

ぶっ壊したい 何もかも
ぶっ壊したい 何もかも
ぶっ壊したい 何もかも
ぶっ壊したい 何もかも

幸福のどん底さ 今
イヴはアダムとする ディナー
白い衣装 黒い未来
Fuck yo mind
意味ないはことない
何も知らず踊りたい
気づく胸騒ぎ 出るエナジー
止める人はいない
Keep dancing

ぶっ壊したい 何もかも
ぶっ壊したい 何もかも
ぶっ壊したい 何もかも
ぶっ壊したい 何もかも

Maybe I'll find a friend
Maybe I'll find a friend
Maybe I'll find a friend
To spend the weekend

The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
The eve of destruction
