"Lucky" is the fourth track on the album All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend. It was written by Aurora and O. Martin and produced by O. Martin and Magnus Skylstad.
Background[]
Aurora wrote part of "Lucky", including the chorus, when she was only 9 years old. The rest of the song was finished when she was 18.[1][2][3] She has also mentioned finishing it at age 12.[4]
The song appeared in live shows since at least October 2014.[5] On February 25, 2016, shortly before its release on the album, a snippet of the studio version was teased on social media.[6]
About the song[]
Aurora explained the song's meaning to The 405:
"It's about realizing that you've been through dark tunnels in life, but still walking forward, both feet strong. We are all lucky to be alive, it's an important thing to remember."[7]
When asked in an interview by Bergensmagasinet if the line "not everybody knows that I am lucky to be alive" was inspired by a specific event, she said:
"It can be interpreted in many ways. I am hypersensitive and very sensitive to everything around me when it comes to sounds, lights and the way people speak [the tone]. It was difficult for me when I discovered that not all children are as well off as I am; I thought a lot about how sad it was, and that I'm just lucky to have been born right here. It feels so random, like a stroke of luck, like something I can easily lose. There is a lot in the world that you can feel threatened by, things that can make you think that I will not survive this."[8][9]
