Background[]
Aurora first teased the release of the song during a livestream done for the release of For the Metal People:
"I'm releasing something fun tomorrow. It's just a little thing I did really quickly, but you can listen to it if you like. It's just a little acoustic version (or like, a quiet version) of a song that I will release to you tomorrow. I don't know if I was supposed to say it or not, but here I am, saying it! I'm excited to share a little piece of intimacy with you tomorrow."[2]
She later posted about the new version on Instagram:
"Hello my darlings, I wanted to do a little acoustic version of 'Runaway' for you all. It's very simple. And it's very honest. And it's a little piece of the core from which Runaway was born from 🌙✨💫 it's available somewhere out there now, I think. So you can have a look at it, if you want. Thank you to my friend @fredriksvabo for sitting down with me and playing it✨ I think I chose our second take, it had just enough nerve in it. 🧚🏻Weee"[3][4]
Lyrics[]
Hmm, I was listening to the ocean
I saw a face in the sand
But when I picked it up
Then it vanished away from my hands (dah)
I had a dream I was seven
Climbing my way in a tree
I saw a piece of Heaven
Waiting in patience for me (dah)
And I was running far away
Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows, nobody knows, and
I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive and I can't complain
But now take me home
Take me home where I belong
I can't take it anymore
I was painting a picture
The picture was a painting of you
For a moment I thought you were here
But then again, it wasn't true (dah)
And all this time I have been lying
Oh, lying in secret to myself
I've been putting sorrow
On the farthest place on my shelf (dah-di-dah)
And I was standing far away
Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows, nobody knows, and
I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive and I can't complain
But now take me home
Take me home where I belong
I got no other place to go
Now take me home
Take me home where I belong
I got no other place to go
Now take me home
Take me home where I belong
I can't take it anymore
But I kept running
For a soft place to fall
And I kept running
For a soft place to fall
And I kept running
For a soft place to fall
And I kept running
For a soft place to fall
And I was running far away
Would I run off the world someday?
But now take me home
Take me home where I belong
I got no other place to go
Now take me home
Take me home where I belong
I got no other place to go
Now take me home
Home where I belong, no, no
Now take me home
Home where I belong, no, no, no
Now take me home
Home where I belong, no, no
Now take me home
Home where I belong
I can't take it anymore
